Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler
Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Riesling Trockenbeeren Auslese 2001

One remarkable thing about this wine is that the name actually fits on the small half-litre bottle! This extraordinary wine boasts delicate floral scents layered over intense aromas of dried apricots and orange-blossom honey. Immensely sweet yet balanced, thanks to a lime edge. Lingering complex finish.

Pine Ridge Andrus
Pine Ridge Andrus - 1998, 1999
Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc

From the producer: Medium-bodied, dark ruby wine that is elegant and graceful with a luscious bouquet of concentrated black fruits. It is reminiscent of a fine Bordeaux in its supple texture and complexity. Layers of briar, mulberry, cranberry, cassis, and cinnamon are wrapped in spice, leather, hints of tobacco, and bittersweet cocoa. Well balanced with firm structure and depth. Cellaring for ten years or more will enhance elegance and character.

1998 - Wine Advocate 87 point rating, Wine Spectator 89 point rating
(Scores from 2002 and 2004)

Only 700 cases produced, these wines would likely get higher ratings than those above after being cellared for several years.

Pine Ridge Fortis
Pine Ridge Fortis 2004

From the producer: The 2004 vintage is awash in lush aromas of cranberry, currant, raspberry, cherry and dried blueberry. Opulently layered with notes of tea, dark cocoa and tobacco leaf, this medium to full-bodied wine offers sweet, ripe flavors of cherry and red berries, a firm texture and silken tannins. It has exceptional concentration and endless length on a finish highlighted by berry and tobacco leaf. This wine may be enjoyed now or cellared for up to 15 years.

Castello Dei Rampolla
Castello Dei Rampolla
Sammarco 2003
Tuscany, Italy

Wine Advocate says it best: "The 2003 Sammarco (90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Sangiovese) presents a gorgeously ripe, jammy nose along with licorice, cassis, smoke, earthiness, grilled herbs and sweet dark fruit nuances that flow from the glass. Full-bodied and long on the palate, it is a massively structured effort that should drink well to age 20, perhaps longer. Only the hard, drying tannins on the finish keep the score from going higher. The 2003 is the first vintage of Sammarco that adds a small percentage of Merlot to the blend. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023."

Castello Dei Rampolla
Castello Dei Rampolla
Vigna d'Alceo 2003
Tuscany, Italy

Again, Wine Advocate says it all: "Castello dei Rampolla’s 2003 D’Alceo (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot) is another ripe, powerful wine packed with layers of super-ripe, opulent fruit, graphite, licorice and tar supported by a firm, classic structure that will require time to fully come together. It is sweeter and riper than the Sammarco, and its more supple personality works well to balance the wine’s structural components...the 2003 is a stunning effort. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.
