This Just In… Some March Arrivals

We apologize. While we’ve been quietly developing a new website behind the scenes that features a more mobile-friendly responsive design (similar to our sister store All Seasons), we’ve been neglecting site updates for a spell. It’s challenging when you have a small crew like ours and jam over 4,000 libations into about 2500 square feet (something we’ve kidded about before) to stay on top of things. We promise we’ll be more on the ball moving forward. But enough rambling for now. Yes, of course the Oberon is in, but there are plenty of other great things to check out. Here are some recent arrivals…

Templeton Rye
Templeton Rye
With a fascinating history rooted in speakeasies and the prohibition era, this remarkable rye was outlawed for decades, and made for the first time again in 2006, after an eighty-five year wait. Well, some didn’t wait, apparently. Get the full story on their website. Producer tasting notes: Aroma dry, grassy, Christmas spice. Taste: hint of caramel, butterscotch, toffee and allspice. Body: deep amber color, lingering and slightly chewy. Finish: wonderful balance, clean and silk smooth. An incredible value at $39.57/750ml
Founders Brewing Smoked PorterFounders Brewing
Smoked Porter
From the Producer: Brewed with a combination of beech wood–smoked barley and oak-smoked wheat malt along with a generous helping of chocolate malt. Brewed for the first time on our new three-barrel pilot system a few weeks ago, we decided this one was too good to keep to ourselves. This 8% ABV smoked robust porter delivers a beautiful balance of chocolate and smoke character that’s flavor forward without being overwhelming. It’s our first ever smoked beer. 750 Ml bottle, just $11.99
Dark Horse Brewing Plead the Fifth Imperial Stout
Dark Horse Brewing
Plead the Fifth Imperial Stout
From the Producer: A Russian Imperial Stout style beer, Plead the Fifth is big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own. $14.99 750ml/four pack
Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA
Dark Horse Brewing
Double Crooked Tree IPA
Like the regular Crooked Tree, except this beer is almost double the flavor and alcohol. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as “The Fonz” when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you’ll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait….trust us). ABV: 12% $19.99/four pack
2007 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
2007 Caparzo Brunello
di Montalcino Riserva
Notes from the producer – COLOUR: ruby red colour tending to garnet with ageing. BOUQUET: pervasive bouquet, very generous and varied, with hints of soft fruit. FLAVOUR: dry, warm, well-sustained, well-orchestrated, delicate and austere at the same time, persistent. FOOD COMBINATION: roast, grilled meat and on the spit, game, braised meat, mature cheese. SERVING TEMPERATURE: 18° C, better if uncorked 1 – 2 hours before serving. $89.99/750ml

2007 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso
2007 Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso
From the producer: The bouquet is intense, complex, fruit-forward and spicy with hints or ripe red berry fruits enriched by various spicy notes. Warm, soft and harmonic on the palate. Great balance among pronounced tannins, acidity and savouriness. This elegant wine has great potential for further cellar ageing. $86.99/750ml
2012 Vietti Roero Arneis
2012 Vietti Roero Arneis
David says: a stunningly elegant white wine with some muscle to it. From the producer: Pale sunshine yellow color with fresh floral, citrus and melon aromas with hints of almonds. An unoaked, dry, medium bodied white wine with crisp acidity, the Arneis is well-balanced, elegant wine with good complexity and a lingering finish. $21.99/750ml
2006 Conn Creek Anthology
2006 Conn Creek Anthology
David Says: Drinking beautifully at this point. Winemaker’s notes: The 2006 Anthology is rich, smooth and spicy. Mature cherry flavors and concentrated cassis fruit are brought to focus with accents of cedar and vanilla spice. The wine is graceful, yet powerful, with seemingly endless berry and spice flavors on the finish. $39.99/750ml
